Success Profile Episode 1: Djeffson Athis

What would you do if you knew that you did not have to go to college to be successful?

What would you do if I told you that most of the successful people you look up to, most millionaires and billionaires you see on TV day in and day out have either not gone to or do not use the skills that they learned in college to build the empire that they now own?

Would you drop out? If you answered yes to that, don’t… don’t go and drop out of school because some blogger told you to, but if you never intended on going to college after high school, if all you want to do is build a business and become as successful as the people you look up. This post is for you.

This is part one of a multi series which will profile successful entrepreneurs, we went out to interview these entrepreneurs to find out how they did it, how they were able to accomplish such feat of success without bothering to get a college degree. What were the obstacles that they faced, and more importantly who they are as people?

To accomplish this, I reached out to a man I knew was the perfect picture of success. A man who 9 years ago came to America with a dream, a dream that he will one day be able to take care of his family back in Haiti, to give back to a community that has given him so much, a man who became unstoppable in the pursuit of an above-average life.

Djeffson Athis is an entrepreneur born in Haiti and like many Haitians who immigrated to the United States, he did not know the language, he did not know the culture beyond what he had seen on television, more importantly, he did not depend on anyone.

When I met him for the first time he lived in a basement apartment, space he was renting from a family friend. He worked at a department store as a stock boy, where he would carry merchandise from the trucks and stock them in the back of the store. He in his own words stated that he only made 300 dollars per week which had to pay bills, help out his family in Haiti and feed him.

Fast forward 7 years, he now lives in a prestigious apartment in the ever so affluent downtown area of Brooklyn, he drives German luxury vehicles, gave his aunt the down payment necessary to purchase a home, he is now able, in less than a decade of hard work and dedication to take care of his family and provide guidance to those who would follow his footsteps. He does all of this through his company Athis Enterprises which is on schedule to make 2 million dollars in revenue this year.

So the question remains, how in the world does someone accomplish such a turn-around in less than a decade?

We asked him just that in the interview below:

Djeffson says that his journey is not over, his main goal is to help whoever wants to be helped, whoever has the drive and desire to turn their life around. You can reach him through his Facebook page: facebook.com/djeffsonathis.

What would you do if you knew that there was another way? What would you do if I told you that the path to success is not only paved with diplomas and degrees?
