Broke? | Young? | You can still see the world!

Spread the love

Okay graduation season is here. Chances are you haven’t even gotten your degree on paper, but you’re so awesome, nothing can stop you, you’re all the way up. You’re probably already dreaming of the possibilities, what to do, what is the next big step now that school’s out.

Well, if you’re anything like me, you will want to see the world, you will want to eat your way across unknown landscapes, elevate your taste buds with exotic coffee/tea, try the “cheese-less” pizzas of Naples (Naples, Italy not Florida), swim in the Nanuya Levu lagoon in Fiji, skydive in Dubai.

There is one hiccup to all of this  you are a recent graduate, and recent graduates who are not trust fund babies are usually broke.

Unfortunately, your options are limited when it comes to where you can go if you don’t have much money, but believe me, with a little bit of searching, some strategizing, planning and some savings you can still see some of those Instagram-ready places that you’ve been dreaming of.

Below are 6 travel destinations that are Instagram friendly, relatively cheap to fly to, or at least to stay in.

  • Mazatlan, Mexico

Forget Cancun, yes forget Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and all the other tourists trap deals on Groupon, set your sights to Mazatlan, Mexico. If you love food (seafood in particular) you owe it to yourself to visit this part of Mexico, which is named the shrimp capital of that country. The good news here is you should not expect to spend that much money when traveling to Mexico as the exchange rate right now is between 16.5 and 20 pesos on the dollar.

  • Crete, Greece

The Greek gods favor you with this one, foodies unite! Let’s go to Crete.
This beautiful Greek island oversees the Mediterranean ocean and is rich in history and a foodie’s paradise. Forbes says that “Crete’s farm-to-table culture is not a fad it is a way of life!” Grab your friends, hop on a plane and go enjoy this stunning location.

  • Decameron, Haiti

Stop!!! Before you say anything about Haiti’s political climate, general safety and poverty level, go read this article about the Caribbean island’s tourism resurgence happening right now. Haiti is beautiful, Haiti is cheap, flight prices fluctuate from time to time but with a little search you can get great deals, so do not be afraid to go there.

Decameron Indigo Beach & Spa is a relatively new all-inclusive resort located in the southern part of the country outside Port-Au-Prince. A little tip, book your flight where you are coming from and book the resort when you get there preferably in person, it is way cheaper than to book through, say…Priceline or something similar.

  • Koh Lanta, Thailand

Ever wanted to live in a beach front shack ? well go to Google right now and type relax bay Thailand, it is impressively beautiful and secluded, it feels like you’re stepping into another world. The rates are so cheap that I am left wondering why people don’t go there. and has Relax bay which is a popular resort listed for under $30/night, around the internet this place gets an average rating of 8.4/10. The day people start catching up on the beauty of Koh Lanta, it will be too late, so book now. Go!

  • Cuba

Here’s the thing, if you’re traveling from the United States, hurry up and visit Cuba before 1 or 2 things happen. First thing is, prices will eventually go up if our president does not destroy the established relationship set up by his predecessor. Second and worst thing that might happen would be a result of the aforementioned relationship, it is threading on thin lines right now and chances are traveling to this beautiful country will become difficult to US citizens.

If you are not coming from the United States of America, what are you waiting for? Cuba has it all, the food, the sites, the beaches, the music. I personally would live there.

  • Last but absolutely not least: Cape Town, South Africa

By now you can tell that I have an affinity for warm weather and beaches, but Cape Town is well rounded with mountains, greenery and beaches, which means you can go hiking atop the majestic Table mountain or relax by the beautiful blue beaches,  I don’t know what else to tell you. The weather there is almost too perfect, the food is fantastic, the people are friendly, you get to see some bad-ass lions and you will not break the bank doing any of the aforementioned activities. Trust me you owe it to yourself to see Cape Town before you embark on the adult life. Save your money and go there.

Cape Town
